Liberia: Former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor Indicted in Drug Trafficking Case.

Liberian authorities have announced the indictment of former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor over her alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking network. Her arrest comes as the country intensifies efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and organized crime.

According to the Ministry of Justice, Taylor is suspected of playing a role in the illegal importation and distribution of drugs. Several foreign nationals are also being investigated in connection with the case.

The development has sent shockwaves through Liberia’s political landscape, given Taylor’s long political career as a former senator and vice president. She is also the former wife of ex-President Charles Taylor.

The case follows a record cocaine seizure in July 2026, when authorities intercepted nearly four tonnes of cocaine worth more than $317 million. The operation marked the largest drug bust in Liberia’s history and highlighted the government’s determination to dismantle trafficking networks operating within the country.
